Volvic’s Force of Nature Fund is supporting grassroots rugby clubs and organisations to help get more girls into rugby.

Figures from World Rugby show only around 158,000 girls (pre-teens and teens) are playing rugby in the UK, whilst 460,000 boys in the same age group involved in the sport.

To level the playing field, Volvic is committed to offering grants of up to £5,000 to grassroots rugby clubs to join us on our mission to get more girls into rugby. This could be anything from creating female changing facilities, purchasing girls’ rugby kit or increasing the number of girls only training sessions.

Originating from the volcanic region of Auvergne, France, Volvic is naturally filtered and crafted with volcanic minerals that brings nature’s force in every sip of water and helps elite athletes meet their hydration needs. As Official Water Supplier of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, Volvic is bringing nature’s force to fans and players, and rallying the nation to support the forces of nature in the women’s game.

Research from World Rugby shows the crucial impact of role models in encouraging girls’ participation, and we have teamed up Red Rose rugby superstar Natasha ‘Mo’ Hunt to inspire the next generation of players.

Getting more girls into rugby

Mo Hunt met up with one of her idols Mel C, best known for being part of the Spice Girls as Sporty Spice where she championed being the sporty one and embodied girl power.

In a candid conversation, Mo and Mel discussed their journey into their respective fields, how they became the forces of nature that they are today and why role models and confidence are so important for young girls.

Natasha "Mo" Hunt, England player, began her rugby journey at 17 after a nudge from her PE teacher. Born in Gloucester, she rose quickly from Malvern RFC to England’s U20s, earning her first senior cap in 2011. Mo quickly realised just how to become a force of nature through the resilience, camaraderie, and a sense of purpose whilst playing rugby.

Now, she is passionate about inspiring young girls to play rugby and empower the next generation of female athletes

Discussing the parallels between performing as a singer and performing as a rugby player, Melanie Chisholm, known to everyone as Sporty Spice, joined Mo to discuss their hopes for women’s rugby as we see the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 take place in England this summer.

Women’s rugby has seen a significant rise in attendance and media interest however this is not yet translating into grassroots participation.

That's why Mel and Mo, with the backing of the Volvic Force of Nature Fund are stepping in to help turn national excitement into local action and getting more girls on the pitch.
